This is a laid-back seaside town on the shores of False Bay what is Cape Town's nicest swimming beach. It is much warmer to swim here than at the beaches on the Atlantic Seaboard. It is flat, wide, and the water is generally calm - so is very child-friendly. It's also a very popular surfing area. There are a variety of surf and adventure operators, restaurants, coffee shops and apartments located along the main beach. |
Look out for the brightly coloured Victorian beach houses which always provide a good photo opportunity. Muizenberg is the start of a vast white sand beach that stretches all the way to Gordon's Bay - a distance of about 40km (25miles). The shark spotter programme that has been rolled out at a number of beaches along False Bay had its humble beginnings at Muizenberg.
Shark spotters positioned high up on the side of the mountain raise the alarm when sharks are spotted, so visitors know when it's not safe to go in the water.
